“David and Goliath”

On July 28, Pastor Katy preaches on the story of David and Goliath found in 1 Samuel 17.

Who doesn’t love a good underdog story? The one who has no chance, no hope of succeeding; the one who has been overlooked and left to tend to the sheep is the one who saves the day! The names “David and Goliath” have become synonymous with empowering the “little one” to take on the giant. It’s such a great story! A young kid takes on the enemy that no soldier will face, and with no armor he takes down the giant with only a sling and a few stones. The story is so ingrained in our culture that even those who have never stepped foot in a church will still likely have a vague familiarity with the plot. Could there be more to the story? Like many of our childhood stories, when read in context and as adults, we just might find that there is a bit more nuance and complexity than a simple “underdog takes on giant” plot.
