“Drunk With Sorrow”

On November 18, Pastor Jim preaches on 1 Samuel 1:3-14.

The story of Hannah, Peninnah, and Elkanah is a classic example of a dysfunctional family. It’s a story of abuse, sorrow, favoritism, and “mansplaining.”

Over the years I’ve come to the conclusion that every family is somewhat dysfunctional and that even the most dysfunctional family functions, sometimes in unhealthy ways. There is an old Chinese proverb that says, “No family can hang out a sign that reads, ‘Nothing the matter here.’”

On Sunday we will think together of how God worked even in the midst of a malfunctioning family. Hopefully we’ll see how God works in all of our families as well.
