On January 7, Pastor Katy preaches on Matthew 2:13-15.
Many of us have had that feeling where you wake up one morning and take a hard look your life, your job, your health, your marriage, or any number of other things, and you ask yourself, “how on earth did I get here?!” It’s rarely a fun experience to accept that your dreams of how things would go for you don’t always happen as you’d planned. Disillusionment and discontent begin to creep in, and we’re forced to ask a new question, “what do I do with where I am?” I’m suspicious that as children, Mary and Joseph did not dream that Mary would become pregnant before their wedding, give birth to the Son of God, and that Joseph would marry her anyway. I imagine that neither planned to have the baby in a stable in Bethlehem, nor that the king would put out a call for the death of their newborn son. When they found themselves living as refugees in Egypt, the same land in which their ancestors had been enslaved, you can almost hear their cries of “how did I get here!?”
