On November 12, Pastor Jim preaches on Galatians 5:1.
“For freedom Christ has set you free. Stand firm therefore and no longer submit to a yoke of slavery.” — Galatians 5:1
In the wake of the horrific shooting in Sutherland Springs, I struggled to know what to preach this Sunday. I’ve always been drawn to Galatians 5:1 because it tells the good news that Jesus came not to enslave us but to set us free. Christian freedom is not anarchy. It’s not doing whatever a person wants with no regard to others. We’ve seen too much of this lately. It’s freedom from fear and shame and guilt. It’s also freedom from those things that distract us and keep us from living happy, healthy lives.
Is there a yoke of slavery somewhere in your life? Something that bows you down and saps the joy from you? Jesus knows all about it. He wants to set you free.
