On January 21, Pastor Katy preaches on 1 Kings 19:1-8.
In 1 Kings 19, Elijah is done. He’s tired of being a prophet and the difficult life that it creates. He’s isolated and burned out, rejected and overwhelmed. He goes off into the wilderness and prays, “It is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life, for I am no better than my ancestors.” Many of us have spoken similar words into the darkness at some point in our lives, and all of us have loved ones who either have been there or are struggling there today. Depression isolates and numbs, and in extreme cases even leads to death by suicide. It touches all our lives in some way, yet we keep it hidden in shame. Let us begin by bringing it into the light.
