Sheryl Stack, our organist since September 2016, has been an active church musician, collaborative pianist, and music teacher in Austin for the past 30-plus years, after moving here from her native state of Kansas to go to grad school. She has two Master of Music degrees from the University of Texas at Austin—in piano performance (1988) and in collaborative piano (2011). Email: sherylstack
Sheryl has been music director and/or organist at St Johns, Berkeley, and Westlake United Methodist Churches in Austin, First UMC of Georgetown, and St. Ignatius Martyr and Sacred Heart Catholic Churches. Sheryl has a home piano studio and also teaches at Pfluger-Rock School of Music; between the two, she teaches 35-40 students weekly. She specializes in collaborating/accompanying, and frequently plays recitals, competitions, and auditions with vocalists and instrumentalists. In addition to accompanying the Oak Hill UMC Choir, she regularly accompanies Austin Community College choirs as well as Inversion Ensemble, a rather new choir in Austin specializing in new music for choirs, much of it written by members of the choir.
Sheryl enjoys starting new music groups and has started choirs, a church orchestra, and a mariachi band. At least four groups she started years ago are still serving churches and communities today.
Sheryl is excited to be here at Oak Hill UMC and enjoys the relationships she has developed. When at home, she enjoys time with her Shih Tsu, Phoenix; Chiweenie, Buttercup; and her exotic long-hair cat, Renee. She is also known as Margaux’s mom; Margaux seasonally plays timpani with the Oak Hill UMC orchestra.
