The Redemption of Scrooge Sermon Series | Sunday, Dec. 3 - Dec. 24
This Advent season we are thinking together about Ebenezer Scrooge and his transformation from, as Dickens described him, “a squeezing, wrenching, grasping, scraping, clutching, covetous old sinner” into the joyful, dancing soul who opened his heart and his pocketbook to the poor, to his neighbor, and to life. We will also be offering an Advent Study on The Redemption of Scrooge.
Sunday, Dec. 10: The Remembrance of Christmas Past
Sunday, Dec. 17: The Life of Christmas Present
Sunday, Dec. 24: The Hope of Christmas Future
Bring a Teddy Bear to Church | Sunday, Dec. 3
Bring a new teddy bear, or other new stuffed animal, to church on Dec. 3 to be given to a wonderful child in our neighborhood. We have been invited by Jane Prince MacLean, Program Administrator at the Travis County Community Center at Oak Hill (8656 Hwy. 71) to be a part of their Christmas party on Dec. 10.
Brown Santa will be there, passing out a full holiday meal to families in our neighborhood and presents to their children. Last year when the kids sat on Brown Santa’s lap he was only able to give them a candy cane. This year he wants to give each one a teddy bear!
Here’s how it will work: Between now and Dec. 3, purchase a teddy bear or other stuffed animal between 12-18 inches tall and bring it to church on “Teddy Bear Sunday.” We want the animals to be similar in size. Sit with your furry friend during worship and leave the critter in the pew when you leave. Won’t it be fun to take a picture of all the stuffed animals sitting in our church?
Another option is for you to have the church order a bear for you online. The cost is $20 per bear. Order your bear by putting the money in an envelope and marking it “Teddy Bear Sunday.” Place it in the offering. Make sure you put your name on the envelope. You may also bring the money to the church office. Your bear will be ready for pickup on Dec. 3 at the Information Desk and will be delivered to the Travis County Community Center at Oak Hill in the next week.
The Travis County Community Center at Oak Hill party will be held Sunday afternoon, Dec. 10. If you wish to help out with the party, contact Alison Talbert at (512) 657-2118 or firstname.lastname@example.org. It’s going to be a lot of fun! Come celebrate Christmas with our Oak Hill neighbors!
