Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. Psalm 23:4
The 23rd Psalm might be the most memorized of all chapters of the Bible. I know that I am not the only one here who has passed through the valleys of the deep, dark shadows of death at least once in life. We’ve all walked through experiences in life that were threatening.
I was driving home from work at 2 a.m. in the morning. It was raining and it was really cold. I took an exit ramp to get from the Interstate to Hwy 290. It was a very long flyover that split at the very top to go either east or west. Just before reaching the highest point on the flyover I saw cars stopped on the exit ramp. Some were sliding sideways into the walls, some were sliding backwards towards me. The rain covering the exit ramp had just frozen. I could not slow down in time and knew I was going to crash. Not being able to stop, I still managed to steer around several cars and stopped right at the top. My heart was racing and I had no idea how I did not hit anybody.
Never before had I felt such a strong presence of the Lord. I was very shaken and gave thanks right then to my Savior and Protector. Have you ever had a moment like that? Praise God!
