Cast your burden on the Lord, and He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved. Psalm 55:22

Although I have been a Christian for many years, several years ago I learned the true meaning of giving my burdens to God.

My daughter took my 5-year old granddaughter, left town and claimed she never wanted to see me or have anything to do with me again. Several years later she was diagnosed with severe Bi-polar disorder and qualified for Medicaid.

At the time this happened, I was also looking for a job and having a difficult time which certainly added to my unhappiness and depression – and that state of mind is certainly not my usual demeanor.

Through a 10-step program geared towards everyone, not just drug addicts, I was eventually able to really trust God’s love and give all my troubles, worries and unhappiness to him. Suddenly the whole world was lifted off my shoulders and I had the most wonderful feeling of serenity.

I always remember the peace I felt then but I still need to pray on a daily basis, and make a real effort to keep trusting God to take over with my life. It seems that we all, and especially Mothers, have a real propensity for worry!

I am still not reconciled with daughter but my 15-year old granddaughter came to live with me 10 years ago and has given me great joy as well as beautiful twin babies. I will always be grateful to God for leading me to a study which basically changed my life and I know God truly does work in mysterious ways.

For I, the Lord your God, will hold your right hand, saying to you, ‘Fear not, I will help you.’ Isaiah 41:13
