….As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD. – Joshua 24:14-15
My husband, Clyde, and I had been married a couple of years and were not regularly attending church in Lubbock where Clyde was in college. Clyde’s parents, long-time Methodists, lived in Midland. His Mom scolded us and said, “You need to be in church; things just go better when you go to church.” Not only did she scold us, but she had their Pastor contact his son who was the choir director at the church in Lubbock where we sometimes attended. We started attending more regularly, we both sang in the choir, and we met some wonderful friends. Things really do go better when you go to church.
Through Clyde’s Air Force career, college, and corporate career, we moved many times. After several moves, Clyde’s sister asked how we always seemed to have a varied assortment of good friends. We told her that we found our friends at church. Things just go better when you go to church.
As my husband’s health deteriorated, we made the decision to move him to a care center in the Austin area to be near our younger son and daughter-in-law. Our wonderful church friends in San Angelo helped me immensely as I waded through 19+ years of “Iiving” (in the same house), in order to downsize from a three bedroom home to a bedroom and some garage storage at our son’s house. Things just go better when you go to church.
Since my husband’s passing, I am now making another varied assortment of good friends here at Oak Hill UMC. Things just go better when you go to church!
