General Characteristics and Expectations
All staff members should be devoted to Jesus Christ and his Church universal, specifically Oak Hill United Methodist Church. Duties should be performed in a professional and timely manner. The ultimate goal is to support the mission of our church: to make disciples for Jesus Christ for the transformation of our neighborhood and world.
The Director of Music Ministries is a salaried position that coordinates all aspects of our music program, which currently includes Adult, Youth, and Children’s Choirs, three adult vocal ensembles, the handbell choir, and other musical groups, such as the praise band.
The Director is directly responsible for leading and/or recruiting volunteers to lead the various musical groups in our church, and oversees the church music staff (presently the organist, staff accompanist, and handbell choir director). Where appropriate, the Director will be expected to provide leadership, guidance, and support for all aspects of music ministry.
The music program at Oak Hill will be designed to glorify God in worship. In addition, it will encourage and inspire worshipers and participants to deepen their faith and respond to God’s call to serve and love our neighbors.
The Director will be intentional about inviting the community to musical events, and provide a vision for expanding Oak Hill UMC’s music ministry and community visibility.
The Director will be supervised by the Senior Pastor.
— Plan music appropriate for worship in consultation with the pastors for all worship services.
— Lead various choirs to be prepared for worship; recruit, train, and coach volunteers to lead or support choirs and ensembles, as needed.
— Where appropriate, coordinate music with various ministries planned and currently happening at Oak Hill UMC.
— Prepare an annual budget in consultation with the senior pastor and the chair of the Finance Committee.
— Manage the budget for the music program. For any activities involving fundraising, prior approval from the senior pastor and chair of the Finance Committee is required.
— In consultation with the Pastors and Staff-Parish Relations Committee, hire needed musical personnel to maintain the music program.
— Support the Associate Pastor and Worship Leader for the Pathways worship service (contemporary worship), as needed.
— Develop and maintain a suitable and substantive music library for all of our musical groups, following copyright law.
— Manage the CCLI license and records.
— Oversee the maintenance of the musical instruments owned by Oak Hill United Methodist Church.
— Invite and engage instrumental musicians in sharing their gifts in regular worship and other special performances.
— Connect our music program with the Oak Hill community outside the walls of the church.
— Meet with the pastors weekly at staff meetings or other times as requested to plan the worship services and other music activities.
— Provide support for summer Vacation Bible School and music camps for Children and Youth.
— Communicate bulletin information with church Office Manager.
— Other duties as assigned.
— Retirement though Wespath Benefits and Investments at rate of five (5%) percent of annual salary.
— Health insurance is available with the church paying 75% of the premium.

Music degree preferred; experience in choral direction and instrumental ensemble conducting; familiarity and interest in all types of church music; excellent interpersonal and leadership skills; excellent organizational skills. Experience in leading praise bands is a plus; experience in composition is a plus. Strong candidates with applicable experience will be considered.
There will be a 90-day probationary period where either the Director of Music or the Staff- Parish Relations Committee may terminate employment.
