They took Jesus to the High Priest, the chief priests, the elders and teachers. They were looking for evidence so they could put Him to death. Mark 14:53-55

On February 6, 1996, I embarked on a trip of a lifetime. I departed from Dallas airport on El-Al Airlines for the Holy Land. My heart was full of excitement, nervousness, anticipation, and many more emotions.

Our hosts welcomed us when we arrived in Jerusalem. They told us we would experience many emotions, but there would be one place for each of us that would be special.

I was holding up pretty well until we reached the house of Caiaphas, the High Priest. Jesus was taken there after his arrest. He was placed in a dungeon which had no entrance except a hole in the roof, through which Jesus was lowered by ropes. His arms and hands were tied so He could not untie the ropes on his body. As we were standing there in that dungeon, I was overcome with emotion. Needless to say, the tissues came out of my pocket.

Every Lenten season, the memories of standing in that dungeon still fill me with overwhelming sadness. Thinking of what He suffered for us and how much He loves us never ceases to amaze me.
