From Generation to Generation: Advent Sermon Series & Devotionals

Sundays, November 27th to December 25th

The stories, scriptures, and traditions of the Christmas season have been passed down to us throughout the generations. This Advent, may you remember that you belong—to a story etched into the wrinkles of time, to generations that have come before and will come after, to a love that won’t let you go.

Join us as we worship this season of Advent, either in person or online.

Saturday, December 10 | 10 am

Do you love the fun of decorating a gingerbread house, but dislike all the mess?  Why not join us for our sweet and messy party?  We will provide all the sugar!! And we will clean up all the mess, too.

We will begin the party with Ms. Jennifer telling the story of Mortimer the mouse (from Mortimer’s Christmas Manger). Then children will sit with their families and enjoy the sounds of Christmas music and the sweet taste of cookies and hot chocolate while decorating their gingerbread houses.

To reserve your spot, please return the registration form to Ms. Jennifer by December 5th. Payment can be made with a check, cash, or by online giving on the website:  Choose the General Fund, with a note of Gingerbread House Party

The holidays, with their traditions and family gatherings, are especially challenging for those who are grieving. Whether that loss occurred long ago or recently, you may feel confused and alone - maybe even angry.  At "Surviving the Holidays" you'll find support and understanding, as well as help in creating a plan for how you might face the holiday season unafraid.
You can register in advance by calling the church office (512-288-3836) or emailing Diane Merwarth: The Participant Book is $5.00, payable at the first meeting (cash or checks, please, scholarships are available). Learn more about this program at

Sunday, December 18 | 4 pm | Sanctuary

Sometimes Christmas may feel like the most wonderful time of the year! Other times, it doesn’t. Whether it is due to the loss of a loved one, distance from family, unachievable holiday expectations, or just the general blahs, Christmas may feel dark and heavy. Sometimes, we just don’t feel like celebrating.

This worship experience will provide a quiet, reflective space to acknowledge the darkness we may feel. In doing so, we may sense a glimmer of light — Hope.

Each year at this time, Oak Hill comes together for a church-wide giving program known as Gifts for the Christ Child. This year’s initiative looks at the struggle faced by many Austinites in searching for a home. It brings to mind the story of Mary and Joseph searching Bethlehem for a safe place to welcome their baby boy. Gifts for the Christ Child – Making a Home calls us to consider those in our community still searching for home through two initiatives. The first addresses those moving from unsheltered into tiny structures of their own in the Esperanza Community. As they move into their first home in some time, safe with a roof, walls, and even a door to protect them, we will show love by offering them a welcome home basket of items that makes a safe place also feel homey. The second partners us with Habitat for Humanity to provide some of the initial cost for a new home. This is a special home in that it will be financed and built through a collaboration with area Methodist churches. It will help a family who has waited for this time to finally realize the dream of home ownership. Your financial gifts will support these initiatives to provide 25 welcome baskets for Esperanza residents and raise $10,000 toward the Habitat home. This Christmas, help someone find their way home.
