On October 15, Pastor Katy preaches on 2 Corinthians 9:10-15.
Talking about money is one of the hardest topics a pastor will ever have to address with a congregation. For many of us, it’s a taboo topic that simply shouldn’t be addressed in church, and we find ourselves becoming angry when it is. It’s too personal…my money is none of the church’s business…I go to church to hear about spiritual matters, not my finances…the reasons are endless. The truth is that as a church we don’t talk about money nearly enough for the precise reason that it is a spiritual matter. Roughly one-third of Jesus’ teachings have to do with money and possessions because the people in Jesus’ times were no different from us. The reason it’s so hard to talk about is the same reason why we need to talk about it; our finances have a spiritually harmful grip on us. When Bishop Schnase uses the term “Extravagant Generosity,” he’s talking about our actions, but even more so about the condition of our hearts.
