“What Do We Do Now”

For some reason, this passage has always amused me.  Jesus floats away like a balloon and his disciples stare as he disappears behind a cloud.  I picture them gazing into the clouds with their mouths hanging open, catching flies.

Suddenly two “men in white robes” appear and ask an obvious question, “Why do you stand looking up toward heaven?” Good question.  “Why are you standing there?”  Implied in the question is another, “How long do you intend to  stand there looking at the clouds?”  Even further, “You have other things to do, stop standing around looking in the sky!”

Once these “Men of Galilee” finally accepted the fact that Jesus was gone I’m sure it didn’t take long for them to think, “Well, what do we do now?”  They seemed not to have a clue.

In these strange times we ask the “What’s next?” question everyday.   What’s the next thing coming down the pike?  What will we do tomorrow?  The same things we did today?

Where is Jesus in the midst of this?
