On January 7, Pastor Jim preaches on Matthew 2:13-15.
“Now after they had left, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, ‘Get up, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you; for Herod is about to search for the child, to destroy him.’ Then Joseph got up, took the child and his mother by night, and went to Egypt, and remained there until the death of Herod. This was to fulfill what had been spoken by the Lord through the prophet, ‘Out of Egypt I have called my son.’”
The days before and after the birth of the child were filled with rude awakenings. Alas, such is life! In their wildest nightmares Mary and Joseph would never have thought they would end up as refugees in Egypt, running from the murderous intentions of King Herod.
This Sunday Pastor Katy and I are starting a series of sermons titled “The Secrets We Share.” We will deal with issues such as loneliness, grief, depression, addiction, and this Sunday, broken dreams. The sermon title is “How Did I Get Here?”
Trust me, it’s not a lecture on the birds and bees! We will think together about the shared experience of examining one’s life and wondering how in the heck things turned out the way they did instead of the way they’d planned.
