On November 5, Pastor Katy preaches on Hebrews 11:1-8.
Sunday is All Saints Sunday, a day when we remember and honor those who have gone before us. The Orthodox Church believes that when we praise God with one another, we join with all those who now reside eternally with God in a state of constant praise and worship. As we honor the faithful lives of those who have recently left us, the author of the letter to the Hebrews calls on the faith of distant ancestors to encourage a church of disillusioned Jewish Christians. We know very little about Abel and Enoch, and Noah appears to have been a fairly regular guy before he eccentrically began building an ark in his front yard, and yet they are cited as examples of the faith God calls us to in this life. Maybe God doesn’t expect us all to be Mother Teresa after all.
