“Help”

The Psalmist is in trouble. He’s crying out to help without hesitation or pride. He’s not saying, “I got this.” or “No worries, be happy.” He doesn’t clutch his Bible and confidently say, “Everything happens for a reason.”

He’s worried. Worried!? He’s quaking in his boots; scared out of his pants!

He’s afraid of those who would do him harm. Those who hide a net for him. Those who would shame him.

Psalm 31 is a hymn for when life gets raw; when we’ve reached the end of our rope, tied a knot, and we’re still slipping.

In verse 5 He says, “Into your hands I commit my spirit.”  Can you think of another time when someone cried those words to God?

I’m pleased  to be preaching from the Psalms. In times like these we need the Psalms.

peace and hope,
