What is Spiritual Formation?

Christian spirituality is a transformational journey in which we learn to open ourselves up to the love of God and the shaping work of the Holy Spirit. Most of us long for a deeper connection with God, but we often don’t know where to start. That’s where Oak Hill’s Spiritual Formation Ministry comes in. We want to help you get to know God more intimately by showing you how to journey deeper into relationship with God.

We seek to walk alongside you in this journey – no matter whether you’re only just getting started or have been on the road for a long time. On this page you will find information on concrete steps you can take right now to help you deepen your spiritual life: from our new group spiritual direction ministry, to classes and workshops, to Internet resources. It is our prayer that the practices and resources listed on this page will help you experience God’s presence in your hearts, minds and bodies and transform you into disciples who love abundantly.

Prayer

Walk

Prayer walks offer a wonderful opportunity to gather and walk outdoors in neighborhood parks, hiking trails, and on nature preserves such as the Wild Basin.

This is a monthly event, that typically takes place on the first Saturday.

Group Spiritual Direction

Spirituality is a process in which the Sacred is experienced through the continuous actions of giving and receiving within relationships.  Within such relationships individuals and communities are able to experience growth and transformation. Please join us as we come together to experience the sacred through prayer, reflection, art, conversation and laughter.

Experiencing "Holy Envy"

If you didn't get enough of Barbara Brown Taylor in our Lenten study of An Altar in the World, then join Pastor Missy as she leads a group through another great book by this author! We'll meet on Thursday evenings from 7-8pm in the Parlor beginning April 11 through May 16.

The book is Holy Envy: Finding God in the Faith of Others. As a professor to undergraduate students teaching a course on the Religions of the World, Barbara Brown Taylor shares her experiences of other faith traditions as she took her students on field trips to mosques, synagogues, and temples.

If you have any questions, contact Pastor Missy (missy@oakhillumc.org).
