On May 4th we will start a new sermon series exploring the intersection of faith and mental health. Each Sunday, we'll explore biblical stories of people who faced difficulties with God's help. Then on Wednesday evenings (at 6 pm), we'll invite you to gather with us to engage in a spiritual practice that complements the Sunday theme. These evening practices are designed to help us experience God's presence in tangible ways during life's challenges.

In our busy world, mental health challenges can leave us feeling isolated and overwhelmed. This series aims to create space where we can connect with God and one another through ancient spiritual practices that have supported believers for centuries.

Our Schedule

May 4 (Sunday) — Isaiah 43:1-5a

We'll reflect on God's promise to be with us through waters and fires—the transitions and trials we all face.

May 7 (Wednesday) Labyrinth Walk (meet at the labyrinth next to the Children's Bldg.)

Experience a walking meditation that symbolizes our journey with God through life's twists and turns. The labyrinth offers a path to the center and back out again, reminding us that God walks with us every step of the way.

May 11 (Sunday) — Psalm 139:1-18

We'll explore how God knows us intimately—even our thoughts—and is aware of our struggles.

May 14 (Wednesday) Centering Prayer (meet in the sanctuary)

This contemplative practice helps us quiet our minds and rest in God's presence. Never heard of it? Check out this post.

May 18 (Sunday) — Job 2:11-13 & 2 Corinthians 1:3-5

We'll consider the power of silent presence when Job's friends initially sat with him in his suffering, and how we comfort others with the comfort we receive.

May 21 (Wednesday) Open Sanctuary (meet in the sanctuary)

Our sanctuary will be open for quiet reflection and prayer—a peaceful haven from the noise and demands of daily life.

May 25 (Sunday) — 1 Kings 19:1-18

We'll learn from Elijah's burnout and God's gentle restoration through rest, nourishment, and the still, small voice.

May 28 (Wednesday) Taizé Worship (meet in the sanctuary)

Experience the calming repetition of simple songs interspersed with silence, creating space for God to speak to our hearts.

June 1 (Sunday) — Philippians 4:6-9

We'll examine the importance of prayer and focusing on positive, honorable, and praiseworthy things.

June 4 (Wednesday) — Praying in Color (in the library in the Adult Ed. Bldg)

This creative prayer practice helps us express thoughts and feelings that might be difficult to put into words, allowing our prayers to take visual form.
